Installing

  1. Unpack the file and upload the contents to your plugin directory
  2. Install the plugin...
  3. Go to the plugin options page or your blog settings page and insert your location information.

How to use the plugin

Insert <%GeoTags%> to the HTML header of the skin you use.

Available SkinVar

  • <%GeoTags%> to insert the meta tags for geographic information

Options

All options are there twice: global for the plugin (if you run a site with more than one blog but the identical location information) and blog specific (here you can decide to use different geographic information for a blog).

  • Place: the name of the city, town, or village you’re living in.
  • Country: the country you’re living in.
  • Two letter code of your country: e.g. DE for Germany...
  • Longitude/Latitude of your place: these are the location information of your place. A good way to get these values is using multimap. Here you have to give decimal values separated by a “.” (point; don’t use a “,”, even if your local reprenstation of numbers do so). E.g., the values for the place I live in are 13.7415 and 51.0687.
  • TGN Id: some services (syndic8 for instance) are supporting TGN ids as well. These you’ll find in the Thesaurus of Geographic Namesproject from the J. Paul Getty Museum.
  • Use these options instead of the global settings: Only available on blog specific options page.
Here you can decide whether to use the options defined in the settings page of the plugin or to override these with the options given in the blog settings.

Bugs

There’s currently one minor bug. If you define some blog specific values but say there to use the global ones and you haven’t saved the global plugin options yet, the blog specific options will be used nevertheless. There’s an easy workaround though: got to the options page of the plugin and save the options once (the field may be empty though). After this, no GeoTags will be included if you tell in your blog to use the empty global settings.

History

  • Version 1.0 (2005-05-08):
    • initial release

ToDo

  • Add handling of skintypes for RSS/ATOM feeds to add geographical information there too.
